What are tophi?
They are deposits of uric acid (tophus is Latin for a calcareous deposit from springs, tufa). These can occur
over the ears, feet, and hands of gouty patients. In the hands, they are pathognomonic of the disease , even though they often get confused for rheumatoid nodules.
