Median nerve palsy
Median nerve palsy may be caused by compression of the median nerve as the median nerve runs through the carpal tunnel. This is known as carpal tunnel syndrome. Median nerve palsy may also occur due to mononeuritis multiplex ( due to SLE, or sarcoidosis).
Median nerve palsy may present with wasting ( thenar atrophy) and reduction of tone in the thenar muscle. There will be reduced sensation over the palmar aspect of the first three and half fingers. Patient with median nerve palsy may present with reduction in flexion, abduction and opposition of the thumb.
