Surgery Definition – What is pyloroplasty?
Pyloroplasty in the form of surgical technique which is used in treating duodenal ulcer. The procedure involves in the widening of the diameter of the inlet of the pylorus. Pyloroplasty is performed by considering horizontal incision made down the mucosa without breaching it and it is sutured in vertical direction. Pyloroplasty is considered if vagotomy is performed as in vagotomy the denervating of the vagus nerve may lead to gastric stasis due to function of vagus nerve in supplying the pylorus for stomach drainage. In this scenario, pyloroplasty will widen the diameter of the pyloric inlet and as a result facilitates the drainage process.
