Edwards Syndrome
Edwards Syndrome may present with rocker - bottom feet, congenital renal defect, congenital heart defect, small jaw/ micrognathia, prominent occipital, low set of ears and overlapping third and fourth fingers. Patient may also present with severe mental retardation.
Edwards syndrome may result in fatality in 1 year after birth. Edwards syndrome are caused my meiotic non disjunction /trisomy 18 . Besides that, Edwards syndrome is also associated with mitotic non disjunction of chromosome 18. This is a form of mosaicism which occur during embryogenesis. The incidence of Edwards syndrome increase with increasing maternal age.
