Symptom Finder - Treatment of Orthostatic Hypotension
HYPOTENSION, ORTHOSTATIC
1. Discontinue or restrict any drugs that may be the cause. If possible, discontinue all drugs that are not absolutely necessary.
2. Sometimes increasing salt intake will help, if there are no contraindications.
3. A sympathomimetic drug such as phenylephrine (Sudafed PE): 30–60 mg qid may be tried.
4. Hydrocortisone 20 mg daily or bid may be tried but be sure adrenal insufficiency is ruled out.
5. Fludrocortisone acetate (Florinef): 0.1–0.2 mg daily
