The pathology of atherosclerosis begins with the formation of the fatty streak in the early life at the lumen of the artery. The fatty streak later progress into fibrous plaque which consists of cap of smooth muscle cell and connective tissue which overlies the core cholesterol esters. Later the fibrous plaque become a complicated lesion which further ulcerated, hemorrhaged, calcified and necrosis. This will lead to highly thrombogenic surface which lead to activation of the platelet and thrombotic plug formation.
