PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE
1. Lansoprazole + amoxicillin + clarithromycin (Prevpac-triple therapy): 1 bid for 14 days.
2. Alternatively bismuth subcitrate + metronidazole + tetracycline (Helidac): 3 capsules qid plus + 20 mg omeprazole for 10 days.
3. Discontinue alcohol for at least 3 months.
4. Avoid NSAIDs and stress.
5. Follow up initial treatment with a bland diet and either ranitidine (Zantac) 150 mg bid or pantoprazole (Protonix) 40 mg daily for 8– 12 weeks.
6. Consult gastroenterologist for treatment failures, recurrences, or complications (GI bleeding, etc.).
