Lung abscess is part of the intrathoracic abscess. Lung abscess is caused by aspiration of the contents from the gastric known as Mendelson’s syndrome and bacterial pneumonia.Bacterial pneumonia is caused by staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus pneumonia and Klebsiella. Lung abscess is usually a sterile abscess. Patient with lung abcess may present with symptoms and signs such as foul smelling sputum, malaise, hemoptysis and swinging pyrexia. The investigations for lung abscess may include erect chest x ray may indicate the cavitating shadow with or without air fluid level. The treatment of lung abscess may include antibiotics treatment and consider percutaneous drainage if antibiotic fails.
