It is important to assess the airway, breathing and circulation.
Observes the capillary refill time, urine output.
Performed a physical examination focusing on identification of any signs of shock such as tachycardia, reduction in jugular venous pressure, cool and clammy peripheries.
Inspect sites of operation for any bleeding, ecchymoses, discharge.
Nasogastric aspirates
Rules of tubes should be considered. Does the patient need any nasogastric tube, oxygen mask, intravenous line and urinary catheter.
The systolic blood pressure should be maintained above 90 mmHg and fluid loss should be replaced.
The fluid is given via iv colloid in a bolus of 100 ml. Colloid such as Gelofusin will remain and expand thee circulating volume for a longer time.
