Patient with bowel obstruction may present with pain which is worsen with vomiting, tachycardic, clammy, febrile, distended abdomen, visible peristalsis, rebound tenderness, tympany on percussion, tinkling or high pitched bowel sound.
It is important, to rule out any hernia by performing inspection of the groin, epigastrium and umbilicus and performing digital rectal examination to rule out any anorectal pathology.
