Surgery Definition – What are the treatments of femoral hernia?
Femoral hernia is treated surgically and may be divided into abdominal or extraperitoneal or suprapubic approach, inguinal or high operation approach and crural or low operation approach.
Abdominal or extraperitoneal or suprapubic approach is commonly considers in cases of strangulation or obstruction or in patient with past history of groin surgery or bilateral cases where both sites can be repaired at the same time.
Inguinal or high operation approach is considered when inguinal hernia may also present at the same side as the femoral hernia so that the repair of both hernias can be performed at the same time.
Crural or low operation approach is considered for reducible and uncomplicated femoral hernia which can be taken electively using local anesthesia in thin patient.
