Symptom Finder - Treatment of Acne Vulgaris
ACNE VULGARIS
1st Line:
1. Topical Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%.
2. Topical antibiotics: Erythromycin 2%, Clindamycin 1%: Apply bid after cleansing.
3. Oral antibiotics: Tetracycline 500 mg bid–qid (also Minocin, doxycycline, and erythromycin). For women of childbearing, age a
trial of birth control pills or 150–250 mg of Depo-Provera every 3 months.
2nd Line:
1. Topical Tretinoin (Retin-A, etc.).
2. Adapalene 0.1% (Differin).
3. Tazarotene (Tazorac).
3rd Line:
1. Isotretinoin (Accutane) administered by special license only, refer to Dermatologist.
