Surgery Definition – What are the indications for CT scan of the head?
CT scan is needed immediately in post traumatic seizures, vomiting for more than 2 episodes post injury to the head, Glasgow Coma Scale or GCS less than 13 or GCS 12 or 14 two hours post injury, focal neurological signs, signs of open skull fracture, signs of basal skull fractures, loss of consciousness and amnesia in patient more than 65 years old.
CT scan is also needed within 8 hours for a patient with retrograde amnesia for more than 30 minutes or loss of consciousness and dangerous causes of injury such as fall for more than 5 m or road traffic accident.
