Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is dealt with establishment of the intravenous access and fluid resuscitation (central venous pressure may be considered). Oxygen may be administered to the patient. Nasogastric tube suction is also considered as well as catheterization and proton pump inhibitor is given to the patient.
The patient is then prepared to be check under the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Look for evidence for any varices which may require further treatment.
