DIABETIC NEUROPATHY
1. In cases of symmetrical polyneuropathy, try multiple B vitamins
as follows:
a. Niacin: 50 mg tid.
b. Thiamin: 50 mg tid.
c. Pyridoxine: 100 mg tid.
d. B12: 1,000 units sublingual daily or IM weekly.
2. For symptomatic therapy:
a. Amitriptyline: 50–150/mg h.s.
b. Gabapentin (Neurontin): 300–1,200 mg tid.
c. Pregabalin (Lyrica): 50–150 mg tid.
3. Check for peripheral vascular disease and Leriche syndrome.
4. Local treatment in the form of topical capsaicin 0.075% cream
may be helpful.
5. Neurology consult.
6. Other AEDs and antidepressants:
7. Calcium Lactate 600–1,200 mg tid.
8. Control cholesterol with statins
