Ewing Sarcoma
Ewing sarcoma is small round blue cell tumor which may present in the medullary cavity of the scapula, long bones, pelvis and ribs. Ewing sarcoma may present with enlarged, painful swollen mass. It occur due to t( 11,22) chromosomal translocation. Radiography may reveal the present of lytic tumor with onion skin appearance.
Ewing sarcoma may present with sheets of small round, blue uniform cells. The tumor cells are arranged in pseudorosette form.Cell necrosis may occur. Ewing sarcoma mostly affect boys.
The common differential diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma is osteomyelitis. Patient may also complain of anemia, fever, fatigue and painful swollen enlarged mass. There will be a raised in the ESR ( sign of inflammation) and leukocytosis.
The treatment will focus on radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgical resection. Ewing sarcoma is a malignant tumor and may metastasis.
