Cellulitis
Cellulitis is caused by group A beta hemolytic streptococci or coagulase positive staphylococci.
staphylococcal infection may lead to localized cellulitis with purulent center while streptococcal infection is characterized by lymphatic streaking.
The differential diagnosis of cellulitis are necrotizing fasciitis, abscess or erysipelas.
Portal of entry is commonly via insect bites or as a result of superficial infection.
Cellulitis is detected by culture ( soft tissue needle aspiration) and present with erythematous ill defined, tender and hot plaques. Patient may also suffer from malaise and fever with local lymphadenitis.
Cellulitis is treated with antibiotic such as cephalexin.
