Pathology definition - IgA Nephropathy
IgA nephropathy
IgA nephropathy is also known as Berger disease. IgA nephropathy is the commonest form acute glomerulonephritis.
IgA nephropathy occurs a result of deposition of the IgA in the glomerular mesangium. There will be diffuse mesangial widening and focal proliferative glomerulonephritis. IgA neprhopathy may be part of Henoch Schonlein purpura or present after viral upper respiratory tract infection.
Patient with IgA nephropathy may present with hematuria 2 days after infection. The treatment may include prednisolone. IgA nephropathy mostly affecting children and male is more common than female. The main complication of IgA nephropathy is the progression of IgA nephropathy into chronic renal failure.
