Phenylephrine
Phenylephrine is useful in producing mydriasis / ophthalmic solution while performing retinal examination. Phenylephrine was previously used in treating patient with supraventricular tachycardia and raising systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. Phenylephrine is useful in treating patient with nasal decongestion.
Phenylephrine will act as alpha 1 agonist which lead to dilation of the pupil and systemic vasoconstriction which may lead to decrease in mucosal secretion in cases of application on nasal mucosa.
The common side effects of phenylephrine may include headache and cardiac arrhythmias.
