Basal pulmonary fibrosis
Basal pulmonary fibrosis occurs due to radiation therapy, rheumatoid, scleroderma, pneumoconiosis, asbestos and idiopathic condition.
Lung function test may indicate the present of restrictive lung disease. Chest x ray will show the present of reticulo nodular shadowing and honeycombing.
Basal pulmonary fibrosis’ patient may appear with cushingoid appearance or signs of scleroderma such as beak like nose and microstomia. The fingers are clubbing with easy bruising and thin skin. Rheumatoid hands and rheumatoid nodules amy present. On auscultation patient may present with fine end inspiratory crackles at the base of the lung.
The complication of basal pulmonary fibrosis are cor pulmonale, hypoxia, edema and raised jugular venous pressure.
