The clinical features associated with hematuria may include hematuria with no pain due to urinary tract neoplasm, dull to sharp lumbar pain with hematuria due to renal calculi, trauma or pyelonephritis, colicky pain in the loin to the groin for ureteric calculi, dysuria and hematuria due to calculi, urethritis or trauma and suprapubic pain and hematuria due to calculi or cystitis.
History taken from patient with hematuria should focus on past history of any risk factors of developing calculi, risk factors for neoplasm, any bleeding disorders, anticoagulation therapy or liver disorder, previous episodes of hematuria due to urinary tract infection, recent travel or swimming in fresh water may lead to schistosomiasis which is one of the cause of hematuria and any symptoms and signs of anemia.
