Appendicitis
The common differential diagnosis of appendicitis are gastoenteritis, urinary tract infection and pneumonia, intussusception, kidney stone and ovarian torsion.
The symptoms and signs of appendicitis are fever, diarrhea, anorexia, vomiting, right lower quadrant pain, rebound tenderness, irritation of the peritoneum, constipation and white blood cell count more than 15 000. Urinalysis may reveal pyuria with guaiac postive test.
An enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes can be identified on the abdominal CT scan.
The treatment of appendicitis may include exploratory laparoscopy and antibiotic perioperative treatment.
