Surgery Definition - What is the treatment of hypokalemia?
The treatment of hypokalemia depends on the concentration of potassium in the body. The critical level of hypokalemia is when the concentration of potassium is lesser than 2.5 mmol/l
The treatment may focus on treating the underlying causes. and considering oral supplementation ( sando - k) if the potassium level is more than 2.5 mmol/l considering slow intravenous infusion. It is important NOT to give bolus dose of potassium as it may lead to fatal cardiac arrhythmias.
