Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding
Patient may present with symptoms and signs such as painless irregular periods for less than 3 weeks but more than 10 days of bleeding. Patient may also suffer from menorrhagia and metrorrhagia.
The differential diagnosis of dysfunctional uterine bleeding are bleeding disorders such as Von Willebrand, coagulopathies and thrombocytopenia and sexually transmitted disorders such as cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease. Others inlcude fibroids, ectopic pregnancy, trauma, malignancy, polycystic ovarian syndrome, adrenal hyperplasia and birth control pills or Depo- Provera.
The investigation require may inlcude full blood count, platelet count, pregnany test and pelvic examination.
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is caused due to unopposed estrogen.
The treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding are blood transfusion, intravenous fluid antiemetics,premarin and oral contraceptives
