Sildenafil forms part of the phosphodiesterase inhibitor. Sildenafil is also known as viagra. Sildenafil is useful in treating patient with angina ( anti angina agent). Sildenafil may also be useful in treating patient with erectile dysfunction.
Sildenafil should not be taken with nitrates ( contraindicated if patient already taken nitrate)as the combinations of sildenafil and nitrates may lead to severe hypotension.
Sildenafil may lead to an increase in the flow of blood to the corpus cavernosum due to sexual stimulation. Sildenafil may cause relaxation of the smooth muscle of the penis. Sildenafil will inhibits cGMP specific phosphodiesterase type 5.
