Surgery Definition – What is gastritis?
Gastritis is the inflammation of the mucosal lining of the stomach which lead to the erosion and ulceration of the mucosal lining and not causing any permanent damage. There are two forms of gastritis such as acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. Chronic gastritis consists of type A and type B chronic gastritis. The differential diagnosis of gastritis is peptic ulcer disease. Gastritis may present with ulcers which are reversible, multiple and do not extend to the muscularis propria. The treatment of gastritis may focus on antacids and modification of diet and avoiding of any precipitating factors. Gastritis is diagnosed by esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy.
