Flatfoot
Pes planus or flexible flatfoot is common infants.
The signs of flatfoot may include no clear arch of the foot.Longitudinal arch noted when the child is sitting. Child may also suffer from calf pain or leg pain.
Toe raise test is considered by asking the child to stand on tiptoes and the heel will go into inversion and medial longitudinal arch is concerned.
The treatment may focus if the patient complain of leg or calf pain. This includes supportive shoe or orthotics to support the heel in neutral position.
The differential diagnosis of flatfoot may include tight achilles, neuromuscular disease or congenital fusion of the tarsal bone known as tarsal coalition which present with shortening of the heel cord ot stiffness of the foot.
