Surgery Definition – What is the treatment of hiatus hernia?
Hiatus hernia is treated conservatively in the similar way as the treatment of gastro esophageal reflux disease in the case of sliding hiatus hernia. The surgical treatment may include lengthening of the esophagus which involves the immobilization of the gastro esophageal junction and returned it to the intra abdominal compartment. Nissen’s fundoplication may also be considered. The whole procedure can be performed laparoscopically.
