Diabetic Nephropathy
Diabetic nephropathy may present with diabetic retinopathy. Patient may present with nephrotic syndrome ( hypoalbuminemia, edema, proteinuria, hyperlipidemia).
Diabetic nephropathy may present with thickening of the glomerular basement membrane.
Diabetic nephropathy may present with increased in the matrix of the mesangial which leads to nodular glomerulosclerosis and diffuse glomerulosclerosis. Nodular glomerulosclerosis is known as nodular accumulations of the mesangial matrix material. Nodular glomerulosclerosis is also known as Kimmelsteil - Wilson nodules. Diffuse glomerulosclerosis is a diffusely distribution which is increase in the mesangial matrix.
Diabetic nephropathy may present with long standing diabetes. Diabetic nephropathy may present with type 1 diabetes mellitus commonly. Men, diabetic native americans and diabetic african american are commonly present with diabetic nephropathy.
The common complication of diabetic nephropathy is end stage renal failure. In this case dialysis is required. Patient who suffer from diabetic nephropathy may need to be treated with strict glycemic control. Hypertensive treatment is required.
