Changas’ disease affects both male and female mostly in Brazil at all ages. Pathologically, Changas’ disease is associated with failure of the lower esophageal sphincter to relax. The causes of Changas disease may include chronic forms of infection by Trypanosoma cruzi which lead to the destruction of the intermuscular ganglion cells. Patient with Changas’ disease may present with dysphagia for liquid and solid. Barium swallow may reveal the present of bird beak appearance of the esophagus with dilated esophagus and no gastric bubble. There will be a raise in the pressure detected by the manometry. The treatment for Changas’ disease may include balloon dilation and Heller’s cardiomyotomy.
