Surgery Definition – What is massive hemothorax?
Massive hemothorax occurs due to rupture of the intercostal artery and large vessel which lead to accumulation of 1500 ml blood in the thoracic cavity. Massive hemothorax may present with decreased entry to the air on the ipsilateral side, dull on percussion on the ipsilateral sides, decreased ipsilateral expansion of the chest, tachypnea and tachycardia.
