Penile Cancer
There are few forms of penile cancer such as penile squamous cell carcinoma, Bowen disease, Bowenoid papulosis and erythroplasia of Queyrat.
Penile squamous cell carcinoma may present with painless lesion which later bleeds, ulcerated and predispose to infection. Penile squamous cell carcinoma is common in Africa and Asia.Penile squamous cell carcinoma occur due to poor hygiene, uncircumcision and infection with human papilloma virus 16,18,31 and 33. Penile squamous cell carcinoma commonly affect middle age- elderly male. Penile squamous cell carcinoma may present as cauliflower fungating mass. It is a papillary lesion ( condyloma acuminata). It appears as areas of thickening of the epithelium with fissuring of the mucosa.
Bowen disease also affect middle - elderly age male who remains uncircumcised. May present with single erythematous plaque of the scrotum or shaft of the penis. May be associated with visceral malignancy. There will be proliferating of the dysplastic epidermal cells. There will also be atypical mitoses.
Bowenoid papulosis is common among youngsters. Bowenoid papulosis may present with numbers of wart lesions / condylomata acuminatum . Bowenoid papulosis may not transform into invasive carcinoma.
Erythroplasia of Queyrat is one of the variant of Bowen disease. May present as single erythematous plaque on prepuce or glans penis. may transform into invasive carcinoma.
