Surgery Definition - How will physical status affect the mortality of patient undergoes surgery?
The American Society of Anaesthesiologists ( ASA) provides a rating scale which indicating mortality rate with the condition of the patient. The mortality rate will be 0.05% in normal and healthy people, 0.4% in patient with mild systemic disease, 4.5% in patient with systemic disease which limit the activity but not incapacitating.
25% mortality rates is associated with patient with incapacitating systemic disease which is constant and poses a threat to life. 50% mortality rate is associated with moribund patient who is not expected to survive with or without any surgical intervention.
