Surgery Definition – What is pneumoperitoneum?
Pneumoperitoneum is caused by insufflation of gas into the peritoneal cavity. This will lead to the distention of the abdominal wall from the abdominal viscera. This will make it easy for minimal access surgery and laparoscopy to be performed. Pneumoperitoneum is performed based on two approaches such as open induction ( Hasson) and closed ( blind) induction / Veress needle.
