Osteochondroma
Osteochondroma is a benign tumor of the bone. Osteochondroma may present with nerve impingement and fracture of the stalks. Osteochondroma mostly present with pain in the bone.
Osteochondroma mostly present with proliferation of the bone deviated from the long axis as a result of displacement of lateral part of the growth plate. There will be endochondral ossification which lead to the formation of the bone which cover the medullary cavity in the form of stalk. This may be detected by radiography. The stalk of bone growth is covered by cartilage cap projecting from the bone. Osteochondroma mostly present in metaphysis of femur and tibia. There will be hyaline cartilage over the bone.
The common complication of osteochondroma is the ability to transform to chondrosarcoma. The treatment of osteochondroma is surgical measure.
