Surgery Definition – What types of patient is at risk of cecal dilation?
The patient with competent ileocecal valve or valve between the cecum and terminal ileum which prevent the backflow of bowel content. There will be no outlet to vent through in case where the pressure in cecum increased.
An incompetent valve will show as both obstruction of the large bowel and small bowel in the plain film as the increased pressure vent backwards through the valve into the terminal ileum.
