Incarcerated hernia is an irreducible and non obstructed hernia which is caused by adhesions that are formed around the sac. Incarcerated hernia is associated with mechanical obstruction of the small bowl and strangulation. The constriction of the neck of the hernia such as the deep ring in the indirect inguinal hernia is the common precipitating factor of causing incarcerated hernia.
