Surgery Definition – What is log – roll?
Log roll need to be performed while exposing the patient. In log roll the patient rolled on to side while maintaining the immobility of the spine. On log roll, the buttock, back, thighs, spine and posterior legs are accessed for any ecchymoses, tenderness and deformities. 5 people are required to perform log roll. However, patient is predisposed to hypothermia and insulation is important post log roll. The core body temperature is assessed rectally. The core temperature can be raised in hypothermia by warmed fluid administered into the bodily orifices via IV fluids, rectal, intraperitoneal, intravesical and orogastric. Bair huggers and covering are considered for mild hypothermia.
