Cerebellar signs
Cerebellar signs consist of dysdiadochokinesia, ataxia, nystagmus, intention tremor, slurred speech ( patient has difficulty in speaking “ British constitution” and hypotonia.
The causes of cerebellar signs are alcohol, multiple sclerosis, stroke and paraneoplastic syndromes mostly bronchogenic carcinoma. There are two forms of cerebellar signs such as unilateral cerebellar signs and bilateral cerebellar signs.Unilateral cerebellar signs are associated with stroke while bilateral cerebellar signs are duw to multiple sclerosis.
Patient may present with reduction in tone on the affected sides. There will be past pointing and intention tremor. If the causative factor is multiple sclerosis, patient is observed for any evidence of internuclear ophthalmoplegia or optic atrophy. The patient usually be in the wheelchair.
