Symptom Finder - Anal Mass
ANAL MASS
Aside from the common external hemorrhoids (which will not be seen in many cases unless the patient is asked to bear down), anal masses may
include any of the following:
1. Skin tag from previous ruptured or incised hemorrhoids
2. Sentinel piles from rectal fissure
3. Perirectal abscess
4. Condyloma latum (syphilitic wart)
5. Condyloma acuminatum or viral warts
6. Rectal prolapse
It is important to keep all of them in mind when the anus is being examined because often you will not see them unless you remember to
look for them. A surgical consult is wise before ordering diagnostic tests.
