Epistaxis
Epistaxis is nose bleeding. On examination there will be telangiectasia, varicosities or hemangiomas. The observation of the nasal passage may reveal old crusts, fresh raw red clots.
The treatment of epistaxis may include pinched soft part of the nose while sitting up. Cleared the nasal cavity from the clots with blowing gently. Collagen sponge or gelatin sponge may be considered ( oxymetazoline).Nasal corticosteroid spray may also considered.
The differential diagnosis of epistaxis may include frequent nose picking, nose blowing, nasopharyngeal angiofibroma and hypertension.
The investigation for epistaxis may include full blood count, platelet count, prothrombin time, von Willebrand panel and toxicology screen.
