Patient with cystic fibrosis may present with failure to thrive, bronchiectasis, malodorous bulky stools, recurrent respiratory infection and chloride in the sweat more than 60 mmol/l.
Meconium ileus is associated with cystic fibrosis.
The treatment of cystic fibrosis may include dietary supplement of pancreatic enzyme supplementation, multivitamins such as vitamin A,D,E and K, antibiotic treatment such as tobramycin on patient with chronic pseudomonas infection and airway clearance therapy ( physiotherapy) with recombinant human DNAse and inhaled hypertonic saline.
Newborn screening is considered by identifying and measuring immunoreactive trypsin which is a pancreatic enzyme.
