Pathology definition - Syndrome of Inappropriate ADH secretion ( SIADH)
Syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion ( SIADH)
There will be an increase in the serum sodium. Patient may suffer from hyponatremia euvolemic. SIADH is associated with with ectopic ADH producing by small cell bronchogenic carcinoma. Certain drugs, intracranial disorders, pulmonary disease and infection may also lead to syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion ( SIADH).
The patient may appear tired and confuse with increase osmolality of the urine and decrease osmolality of the serum.
Water retention may occur as a result of the action of excess ADH. This will lead to dilution of sodium and decreased in serum osmolality.
The treatment for SIADH may include to restrict the amount of fluid intake and demeclocyline.
