Functional bowel obstruction may be caused by abdominal malignancy, post operative condition, renal failure, retroperitoneal hemorrhage, electrolytes disturbance, peritonitis, pneumonia, pelvic abscess, myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accident, mesenteric vascular disease, myxedema, trauma or injury to the spine and head, diabetic ketoacidosis and the intake of tricyclic anti depressant or general anesthesia.
