The emergency treatment of the open fracture may begin with the photograph taken of the wound and follow with irrigation of the wound with saline in emergency department. The wound is the covered with Betadine soaked gauzes and splinted the limb. Intravenous antibiotic is considered and tetanus status is checked and proper prophylaxis is given. Radiography x ray of the wound must be taken and the patient is taken to the operating room for debridement, irrigation and stabilisation of the fracture. The wound is inspected every 2 - 3 days until it can be closed.
