Continuous renal replacement therapy is part of the renal replacement therapy. There are two forms of renal replacement therapy such as Venovenous or Arteriovenous which utilize either hemofiltration, hemodialysis or phemoDiaFiltration. Continuous renal replacement therapy is useful in cases of sepsis as it facilitates the removal / clearance of the inflammatory mediators and in cases of raised intracranial pressure due to its slower rates of transfer of the solutes which make it useful for patient who may be put in dangerous situation if rapid changes in osmolality is considered. Continuous renal replacement therapy has a slower rates of action than intermittent hemodialysis Therefore, continuous renal replacement therapy can be tolerated by patient who is hemodynamically unstable.
