Surgery Definition - What is the normal fluid regime for surgical patient?
For normal person weigh 70 kg, the maintenance fluid requirement is approximately 3000 ml or 3 litres per day. This can be given as 3 bags each containing 1 litres of fluid and each run for 8 hours.
The regime may include 3 litres of normal saline at 1 litres per 8 hours or 2 litres of normal saline and 1 litres of 5% dextrose at 1 litres per 8 hours or 3.3 litres of dextrose saline at 1 litres per 8 hours.
