-falling backwards of tongue when sleeping supine
-longer than normal uvula
-elderly
-alcohol intake
-obesity
-nasal blockage
-deviated sputum
-low set thick soft palate
-upper airway muscle weakness
-upper airway soft tissue laxity 
-obstructive sleep apnea
