Symptom Finder - Acute Labyrinthitis
LABYRINTHITIS, ACUTE
1. Look for other causes of vertigo (cerebrovascular disease, benign positional vertigo, toxic labyrinthitis from drugs, etc.) and treat.
2. Meclizine (Antivert): 12.5–25 mg tid.
3. Diazepam (Valium): 2–10 mg tid.
4. It there is nausea or vomiting, treat with promethazine (Phenergan) 12.5–50 mg IM or suppository q6hrs PRN. Alternatively, other antiemetics may be tried
5. If vertigo persists, refer patient to an otolaryngologist or neurologist.
