Pharmacology definition - Isoproterenol
Isoproterenol
isoproterenol is useful in treating condition such as complete heart block or cardiac arrest and severe asthmatic attacks. Isoproterenol is a potent beta 1 and beta 2 receptor agonist.
Isoproterenol will activate beta 1 receptor and this will lead to an increase in the contraction and increase in the heart rates as well as cardiac output.
Isoproterenol will activate beta 2 receptor and this will leads to decrease in diastolic pressure and mean arterial pressure due to peripheral vasodilation and bronchodilation.
The common side effects of isoproterenol are pulmonary edema, anxiety and cardiac arrhythmias.
